Course Overview

Hardware-software partitioning, professional 4-layer PCB design in KiCad, high-speed routing, power distribution, and EMC. Curriculum Structure & Core Modules: • 1. Hardware-Software Co-Design Methodology: System Specifications and Partitioning Architecture • 2. Hierarchical...

What You'll Learn

  • Perform hardware-software trade-off analysis and partition system tasks between MCU firmware and logic.
  • Design complex schematics with hierarchical sheets, custom library symbols, and electrical rule checks (ERC).
  • Route multi-layer PCBs incorporating solid ground planes, power plane decoupling, and thermal relief pads.
  • Apply high-speed PCB routing guidelines: controlled impedance traces, length matching, and differential pairs.
  • Generate complete manufacturing output files (Gerber RS-274X, drill files, IPC-D-356, pick-and-place files).

Requirements

  • Completion of CPE 218.
